Iran's Deputy President Zarif Resigns After Just 10 Days in Office
Iran's Deputy President for Strategic Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif, who served as the country's Foreign Minister from 2013 to 2021 and was a proponent of negotiations with the United States, has resigned after only 10 days in office. According to reports from Armenpress, Zarif announced his resignation on his page on the X social platform.
"I am dissatisfied with the outcome of my work as the head of the advisory council for the formation of the new cabinet... Among other issues, this compelled me to continue my path at the university," he wrote.
This advisory council is the same one Zarif headed immediately following the victory of Masoud Pezeshkian in Iran's presidential elections on July 5. Zarif was responsible for selecting candidates for the new cabinet, which was presented for parliamentary approval on August 11.
