Ukraine Awaits Global and IAEA Response
Russian troops have set fire in the territory of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Ukraine is awaiting a response from the world and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated, as reported by RBC-Ukraine referencing the president's Telegram channel.
According to the Ukrainian president, the radiation level is currently normal, "but the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant cannot be normal as long as it is illegally controlled by Russian terrorists and used to blackmail Ukraine, all of Europe, and the world," he emphasized.
“We are waiting for the world's response, waiting for the IAEA's reaction. Russia must answer for this. Only Ukrainian control over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant can guarantee a return to normalcy and complete safety,” Zelensky underlined.
On the evening of August 11, residents of Nikopol noticed a fire in the vicinity of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. According to the head of the Nikopol district military administration, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, the Russians set ablaze a large amount of tires in one of the cooling towers of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. This was likely done as a provocation or to intimidate Ukrainians.
