Goris and Iran's Kashan City to Become Sister Cities: Arushanian
During a press conference in Kapan, the Consul of Iran, Morteza Abedin Varamini, confirmed an agreement that Goris and Iran's Kashan will become sister cities. This was stated by Goris Mayor Arush Arushanian at the Armenian-Iranian cultural festival titled "Silk Carpet of Cooperation".
"There are already specific steps taken, and I believe that our cooperation will bear fruit soon. This will help increase the avenues of communication between our two peoples, similar to our relationship with the city of Vienne in France. We have noted that the number of tourists from France visiting us is notably high. Likewise, we want to strengthen our ties with Iran," said Arushanian.
According to the mayor, Goris has lost many opportunities since the last war in Artsakh and now intends to focus primarily on tourism. He mentioned that due to the festival taking place in Goris today, occupancy in local hotels has reached 80-90%.
"It is evident that tourism is a significant factor for Goris's economy. For the first time, Goris is participating in such an initiative. We have an agreement with the Iranian consul that similar events will occur more frequently in Goris, which will create a stronger connection between our two nations," Arushanian noted.
However, he refrained from political comments, stating, "When I have engaged in politics, it has solely been for Artsakh. To be completely honest, politics is not a comfort zone for me." He added, "The fact that Goris is flourishing hour by hour is already my favorite job."
