Fighting Continues in Kursk Region for the Third Day
In the Kursk region of Russia, the assault by the Ukrainian army has been ongoing for three days. There is still very little information from Russian officials about the events. This is reported by the BBC's Russian service.
“Our city has been shelled with everything possible... We have never lived through such fear,” recalls a local resident, Marina (name changed), in an interview with the BBC.
According to her, the shelling started at three in the morning, after which her entire family hid in the bathroom and stayed there for almost three hours. Marina and her family left their home at half-past seven in the morning and drove away in their car. “Those who left later,” Marina continues, “said they saw burned vehicles along the roadside.”
The invasion by Ukrainian units into the Kursk region began on the night of August 6. First, the region experienced drone attacks (according to the acting governor of Kursk, Alexey Smirnov, 26 aerial drones were shot down), and afterward, Suja and adjacent areas came under fire.
In the morning, the first reports started coming from Ukraine about armed groups breaching and fighting in border regions.
Alexey Smirnov was among the first to comment on the events, stating that “the border guards of the FSB of Russia and the Russian Armed Forces prevented the border from being crossed.”
