Internal Tension: Why Did Judges Decide to Convene During the Hot Summer Days?

Why did judges decide to hold a meeting during the hot summer days and elect a member of the educational commission? This is reported by the "Zhoghovurd" newspaper.

The issue is that on July 24, 2024, through the light-handed action of the Supreme Judicial Council, the powers of judge Arthur Stepanyan, a member of the educational commission, were terminated. Following the departure of the judge, the commission has been unable to operate normally. As a result, despite the scorching summer and many judges being on vacation, they have stated internally: "Everything must be done to ensure quorum." However, this is not the only commission facing issues. We learned that in the near future, the terms of two members of the judges' ethics and disciplinary matters commission, judges Elizaveta Danielyan and Lilit Katvalyan, are also set to expire, and it is likely that this election will also be organized during the forthcoming meeting; otherwise, chaos may ensue within the system.

It is noteworthy that by the decree of Acting President of the Supreme Court Hamlet Asatryan, a general assembly of judges has been convened for August 16, 2024, at 14:00. Among other issues on the agenda, the election of a member of the judges' educational matters commission will be discussed.
