Biden Comments on the Assassination of Haniyeh

U.S. President Joe Biden has stated that the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the political wing of the Palestinian Hamas radical group, which occurred on July 31 in Tehran, is "not helpful" in achieving a ceasefire in the war led by Israel in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by Reuters.

"It doesn’t help," Biden told reporters when asked if Haniyeh's assassination had undermined the chances for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

Biden remarked that during a conversation on Thursday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he urged him to reach a swift agreement on the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza.

He added that he is "very concerned" about the rising tensions in the Middle East.

Israel is accused of being responsible for Haniyeh's assassination, but the country has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.
