Baku Calls on the International Community for Measures to Eliminate 'Mine Threat'

Baku is demanding effective measures from the international community to eliminate the "mine threat." This statement from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry follows reports from the country's law enforcement agencies indicating that four individuals were injured due to a mine explosion in the Qazakh region.

The Azerbaijani authorities claim that the explosion occurred in one of the villages transferred to Baku’s control by Armenia in April, specifically in Gyzylhajili. "The increasing number of mine victims necessitates prompt action by the international community to eliminate this threat," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's statement reads.

Both Azerbaijan and Armenia have not joined the international conventions banning landmines. As a result of delimitation work between Armenia and Azerbaijan, a 12.7 km long border line was established. Baku reported that as a result of the delimitation, four villages in Azerbaijan's Qazakh region—Baghanis Ayrum, Ashaghi Askipara, Kheyrlumli, and Gyzyl Hacili—covering an area of 6.5 square kilometers, have been returned to Azerbaijan.
