Baku Calls on International Community for Measures to Eliminate 'Mine Threat'

Baku is demanding effective measures from the international community to eliminate the 'mine threat'. This statement from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs follows reports from the country’s law enforcement agencies indicating that four individuals were injured due to a mine explosion in the Qazakh region.

The Azerbaijani authorities claim that the explosion occurred in one of the villages transferred to Baku’s control by Armenia in April, specifically in Gizilhacili.

“The increasing number of casualties from mines necessitates effective actions from the international community to mitigate this threat,” the statement from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Both Azerbaijan and Armenia have not joined international conventions banning landmines.

As a result of delimitation work between Armenia and Azerbaijan, a border line of 12.7 km was established. Baku reported that, as a result of this delimitation, territories in Azerbaijan's Qazakh district—including the villages of Baghaniques Ayrum, Ashaghi Askipara, Kheyrlumli, and Gizilhacili—covering an area of 6.5 square kilometers, have been returned to Azerbaijan.
