Video: 500 Elevators Replacement Begins in Yerevan, Nearly Half of City's Elevators Will Be Updated
This year, 500 elevators will be replaced in Yerevan. The process is being conducted in two phases, with addresses selected based on the wear and tear of the elevators. Most of the city's residential building elevators have served residents for over 40 years.
“The Yerevan Municipality has been implementing the elevator replacement program for the sixth consecutive year. Since 2019, including this year, the city will have replaced 2051 elevators. This allows us to state that we have replaced almost half of the city's elevator fund. Given that elevators are private property, we implement the program to lighten the social burden on residents and ensure the safety of citizens,” emphasizes Deputy Mayor Levon Hovhannisyan.
“Currently, the replacement has begun at 97 addresses simultaneously. We are installing 400 Belarusian and 100 Russian-produced machines. The operational lifespan is about 25 years,” says Kamo Badanyan, head of the municipal economy department of Yerevan Municipality. Each elevator replacement is scheduled for 40 working days, and before being put into operation, each elevator will undergo a special examination. It is noteworthy that they will also be adapted for persons with disabilities. The responsibility of the citizens is to use and maintain the elevators carefully, as they are part of their own private property.
