Peskov on the Assassination Attempt Against Trump
During the presidency of Donald Trump, Russian-American relations have not been shattered. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
“When there is an attempt to kill another person, especially a former president of the United States, with whom he (Russian President Vladimir Putin) has had communications, as our presidents were in touch at that time, Russian-American relations have not been shattered,” Peskov said in an interview with the Kommersant radio station.
The assassination attempt against the former president occurred on July 13 in Pennsylvania during his campaign speech. Trump was injured in the ear, one audience member died, and two others sustained critical injuries. The U.S. Secret Service reported that they had neutralized the suspect, who had fired multiple shots towards the stage. He had been hiding on the roof of a production building approximately 100 meters away from the stage, outside the area where the event was taking place.
On July 17, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it would conduct an investigation into the Secret Service’s actions to ensure Trump’s security during his campaign rally. The FBI is investigating the incident as an assassination attempt and a potential domestic terrorism case. According to the Bureau, the suspect is 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.
