Former Prime Minister's Adviser Summoned by Asset Forfeiture Agency

The former head of the Customs Enforcement Department of the State Revenue Committee and adviser to former Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, Samvel Sanamyan, along with his family members, have been summoned for an inquiry concerning their property.

They have been invited to the Asset Forfeiture Agency of the Prosecutor General's Office to review case materials and present their stance. This was reported by Hetq.

Not only has Samvel Sanamyan been summoned, but also his wife, Hasmik Sisakyan, and their sons, Edward, David, and Karo Sanamyan, as well as related individuals Nona Grigoryan, Tatevik Astabatsyan, and Luiza Sanamyan.

At this stage, the prosecution has not disclosed which properties are allegedly considered to be of unlawful origin or what is intended for forfeiture. The explanation provided is that in this case, Sanamyan and his family members, along with related individuals, may present evidence and positions that could potentially alter the list of properties subject to forfeiture.

It was previously reported by Hetq that many of the past lessees of section four of the Circular Park in Yerevan are former high-ranking officials and their affiliates, including Ararat Gomtsy, the former consul general of Armenia in the Southern Federal District of Russia; Lyudvig Sargsyan, the former head of the organized crime unit of the police; the family of former Yerevan mayor and former Minister of Internal Affairs Suren Abrahamyan; former chief adviser to the mayor Grigor Melkumyan; Samvel Sanamyan’s son; as well as those arrested alongside Armen Ghazaryan, known as “Pzo,” in the U.S.

In the area leased by “Game-Service” LLC within the Circular Park, there are tennis courts, which host the “Ararat” tennis club. Reports stated that the director of the company was Samvel Sanamyan’s son, Edward Sanamyan, who is currently implicated in the alleged asset forfeiture case.

In 2017, Samvel Sanamyan was elected as a Deputy through the proportional list of the Republican Party, but he later submitted a withdrawal request and handed his mandate to another candidate.
