US Aims to Create New Ground Route through Armenia and Azerbaijan, Bypassing Russia and China
The United States aims to establish a new ground route through Armenia and Azerbaijan from Central Asian countries, circumventing Russia and China. This announcement was made by US Assistant Secretary of State James O'Brien.
“Central Asian countries are incredibly rich, and their only current options for accessing global markets are through Russia or China. If we can open a route that passes through Armenia or Azerbaijan, they will be much less dependent on Russia and China,” he stated during a speech to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Previously, Anjali Kaur, Deputy Assistant Administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), stated that the US could become a “reliable alternative” to Russia and China for Central Asian countries by 2025, with expanded funding.
