Iran Places Key Importance on Maintaining Peace in the Region – Pezeshkian

A meeting took place in Tehran between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the newly elected President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian. During the meeting, the Iranian President expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Pashinyan for accepting the invitation and visiting Iran for a working trip.

Masoud Pezeshkian added that Iran values the continuous development of political, economic, and humanitarian relations with its friendly neighbor, Armenia. Prime Minister Pashinyan thanked Masoud Pezeshkian for the warm hospitality and once again congratulated him on being elected President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Prime Minister emphasized that multifaceted cooperation with Iran holds significant importance for Armenia, grounded in mutual respect and understanding. Pezeshkian reaffirmed previously achieved high-level agreements, stating, “The historical and cultural ties between our two peoples form the basis for further enhancing bilateral cooperation. We are ready to jointly continue our dialogue and enrich the agenda of bilateral cooperation.”

Pashinyan remarked, “My presence here today demonstrates our commitment to deepening relations at the highest level between Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran and to strengthening cooperation.” He presented the Armenian government’s “Crossroad of Peace” project and its principles aimed at unblocking regional communication routes.

The newly elected Iranian President emphasized the importance of consistent efforts to establish peace and stability in the region. Masoud Pezeshkian stated that maintaining peace in the region is of key significance for Iran and added that the Iranian side also considers it necessary to resolve all issues through dialogue.

Pashinyan highlighted the importance of Iranian involvement in the construction of the North-South highway, particularly the Agarak-Kajaran segment. The significance of ongoing steps towards modernizing the Armenia-Iran border crossing was also emphasized.

The leaders of Armenia and Iran addressed a wide range of issues related to strengthening trade and economic ties and discussed the implementation of joint new projects in the fields of healthcare, cutting-edge technologies, education, science, and culture.

Masoud Pezeshkian noted that he has personally visited Armenia and has warm impressions of the country and its people. The interlocutors underscored the importance of high-level reciprocal visits.
