Water Discovered in Lunar Soil
Chinese scientists have announced the discovery of traces of water in lunar soil samples collected by the Chinese "Chang'e-5" lunar probe. The findings were published in the journal Nature Astronomy.
In 2022, the Chang'e-5 lunar probe completed its mission, returning samples of lunar rocks and soil to Earth. Scientists used an infrared detector to analyze the samples, which enabled them to detect the presence of water traces.
In April, it was reported that Italian scientists from the Third University of Rome plan to investigate the water resources of Jupiter's moons during the JUICE space mission. It is believed that moons like Enceladus, Ganymede, Europa, and Callisto of Jupiter and Saturn contain liquid water oceans beneath their icy crusts.
Meanwhile, a group of American archaeologists from the University of California, San Diego, announced that Saturn's icy moon Enceladus has conditions suitable for the emergence of organic life.
