Which Specialties Have Been in Demand in Universities and Which Have Been Overlooked by Applicants

Every year, a segment of applicants considers that if a particular specialty has lower admission scores this year, they might prepare for that specialty next year, leading to an increase in competition for those fields. This was mentioned today, July 23, during a press conference by the Deputy Director of the National Center for Testing, Karo Nasibyan, as he summarized this year’s unified entrance exams for universities.

“Some applicants are well-prepared and come to the examination room with clear intentions, submitting their applications and striving to study in their chosen fields. Last year, the dentistry department of the Medical University admitted applicants with scores as low as 24. This year, the highest competition is in this department, with 2.4 candidates competing for one spot. Public Policy and Administration comes in second, with 2.3 candidates per spot. Following that, the new law specialty has 2.1 candidates for one position. Unexpectedly, at Yerevan State University, the Public Relations department has 2 applicants for one spot. Even in Political Science, there were 1.9 applicants per spot,” he noted, adding that economics and finance specialties were not included in the top ten.

When asked which specialties have been overlooked by applicants, Nasibyan responded, “Yerevan State University and the Polytechnic University have places with deferment rights. Furthermore, at Yerevan State University, there are free spots for the chemistry specialty, which is available for male students with deferment rights, that have not been filled in either last year or this year. The number of applicants for both the Agricultural University and the Pedagogical University is declining annually. As a result of the first round of exams, about 50 applicants filled the specialties at the Agricultural University. The same can be said about the regional universities, although the Agricultural University has had fewer applicants than the regional university this year.”
