Mercedes Collides with ZIL, Hits Pedestrian Resulting in Fatality and Strikes Two Opel Vehicles
Today, on July 23, a traffic accident involving a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run occurred in the Gegharkunik region. At around 13:20, 76-year-old Vazgen Sogoyan, driving a Mercedes vehicle, collided with a parked ZIL truck on the 56 km stretch of the Yerevan-Ijevan highway, within the administrative territory of Gagarin village. After the initial collision, he continued forward, struck a pedestrian, and then collided with two Opel vehicles.
According to reports from the scene by Shamshyan.com, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the incident, the Sevan Investigative Division has initiated a criminal case.
Photographer reports indicate that the ZIL truck belongs to the Sevan road division, and its workers were engaged in their duties when the Mercedes struck the ZIL, resulting in the pedestrian being hit as well as the subsequent collisions with the Opels. The driver of the Mercedes underwent a sobriety test at the scene and was found to be sober.
The police and investigative division are working to determine the identities of both the deceased and the owners of the damaged vehicles.
