US Presidential Candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. Promises Sanctions Against Baku

Independent US presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. has promised to impose sanctions against Azerbaijan for aggression in Nagorno-Karabakh and the ethnic cleansing of Armenians, as he stated in an interview with Zartonk Media. “As president, I would prioritize this from day one, using the presidential platform to condemn what has occurred and calling on our European allies to join in sanctions against Azerbaijan,” the politician said.

Kennedy Jr. labeled the events of September 2023 in Nagorno-Karabakh as genocide, adding that “the neo-conservatives in the White House consider genocide merely an inconvenient issue to be concealed,” a feat they have managed due to the indifference of the American press. He stated that the war against Russia does not serve Washington's interests, as the Ukrainian conflict led by Biden has strengthened Russian President Vladimir Putin more than ever.

“We are closer to nuclear exchange with Russia than we have been since 1962. The Russians have 2,500 more missiles than us. They have better defensive systems than we do, and the whole world hopes that we do not lead to a nuclear exchange,” he added.

Kennedy Jr. noted that he plans to reduce tensions in relations with Russia and China, redirecting Washington's attention to humanitarian issues in the world, such as the flight of over 100,000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh. He also emphasized the need for sanctions against Azerbaijan, given the resale of sanctioned Russian oil to European countries.

He condemned the Turkish authorities for their assistance in the genocide in Nagorno-Karabakh and pointed out that NATO has not provided the necessary tools to prevent Ankara from ongoing atrocities, even after the genocide of Kurds in northern Syria and the occupation of Cyprus. “As President of the United States, I will work to redefine NATO’s role, making it a truly peacekeeping organization rather than a military organization and coalition. If we don’t do that, NATO will collapse under its own weight,” Kennedy Jr. concluded.
