Nothing Good Can Be Expected in the Coming Six Months: Peskov
The Kremlin is not particularly surprised by U.S. President Joe Biden's decision to drop out of the election race. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, informed reporters about this. "To be honest, what has happened in the U.S. over the last few years has taught us not to be surprised by anything. Therefore, we were not very surprised," Peskov stated.
According to him, the Kremlin is closely following the developments in the U.S. "This is quite understandable, but essentially, just as we observe the developments in all other major countries around the world. All of this presents interest to us, and of course, we are closely monitoring everything that is happening globally," he said.
At the same time, Peskov declined to directly answer the question of how the Kremlin evaluates Biden's decision to withdraw from the elections. "First and foremost, this is about the U.S. election campaign. And with all understanding that this concerns the election campaign of one of the world's largest countries, it is still not our internal affair. This cannot be a primary topic on our agenda. And of course, we are not the ones to assess the decisions of the current U.S. president and presidential candidates. This topic, most likely, should concern American voters, but not us," the press secretary of Vladimir Putin stated.
He emphasized that for Russia, "it is very important to consider the future of Russian-American relations, which are currently experiencing the worst period in their history." "But nonetheless, the main points of concern for us are our own problems, our achievements, and above all, of course, the special military operation and the realization of the goals that have been set," Peskov declared.
Peskov stated that no good could be expected in the coming six months, responding to the question of what expectations the Kremlin has ahead of the U.S. elections: "No good should be expected, judging by the mood prevailing among the political elite in the U.S. The U.S. will continue to assist Ukraine in one way or another. This is obvious. Trying, of course, to load its European subordinates more financially. This trend is also clearly noticeable. The assistance, of course, will continue. This, by the way, does not contribute to the resolution of the conflict around Ukraine. On the contrary, it leads to a prolongation of that issue," noted the Kremlin representative.
