Azerbaijanis Cultivating Hundreds of Hectares of Land in Vazashen, Journalist Voskanyan Reports
Azerbaijanis are cultivating hundreds of hectares of land in Vazashen. This was reported by Tavush journalist Voskanyan:
“As of January 1, 2017, the border village of Vazashen in the Ijevan region, which has a population of 887, has a total of 1,650 hectares of agricultural land, of which about 1,500 hectares cannot be farmed by the residents of Vazashen due to being located in a dangerous border area. Out of the remaining 150 hectares, 75 hectares are household plots that the villagers cultivate to solve their daily bread issue. Vazashen has about 60 hectares of arable land.
During the Soviet era, the lands of Vazashen were irrigated through a pump station fed by the Aygehovit village, which is part of the neighboring settlements, from the Aghstef River. Since 1991, the pump station has been non-operational, and the lands of Vazashen are not irrigated. According to information received from Vazashen, several hundred hectares of the village's land have been beyond the village's defensive positions since the establishment of the ceasefire in 1994. Azerbaijanis are cultivating these arable lands of Vazashen, where they are sowing wheat and barley,” the journalist wrote.
