Woman Subjected to Sexual Exploitation for a Year, Paid Man 200,000 AMD Daily

The preliminary investigation into a case of sexual exploitation has concluded. The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia reported that substantial evidential data was obtained during the investigation conducted by the division responsible for trafficking in persons, sexual integrity of minors, and drug trafficking crimes.

According to the findings, a 41-year-old resident of Aragatsotn Province, after getting acquainted with a resident of Yerevan while providing taxi services in 2021, aimed to subject her to sexual exploitation.

It was reported that days after their acquaintance, he proposed that the woman engage in prostitution to keep her in and exploit her sexual exploitation situation, to which she agreed. However, the 41-year-old man, using periodic violence against her and threatening violence against her and her children, took all the money she earned from prostitution.

From October 2021 to October 2022, while in a state of exploitation, the Yerevan resident engaged in prostitution in rented accommodations either arranged by the man or in various hotel complexes, transferring an average daily amount of 200,000 AMD she earned to the 41-year-old man.

Whenever the woman refused to continue prostitution or did not hand over the earned money to the man, he repeatedly subjected her to violence and made threats against her family members.

Based on sufficient evidence, charges were presented against the 41-year-old man under Article 188, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. A preventive measure of detention has been applied to him. The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the materials of the criminal case, along with the accusatory conclusion, have been sent to the supervising prosecutor for approval and forwarding to the court.
