Developer to Demolish Abandoned Building at Sevak 5, Claiming Safety for Nearby Residents

In the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district, an abandoned building located at Sevak 5 is set to be demolished using explosives. Residents of the neighborhood have raised concerns that the blast could affect the seismic stability of their buildings situated 20 to 40 meters away.

This was stated today, July 19, in an interview with NEWS.am by a resident named Haik, who emphasized that the explosion poses a danger to the safety of the residents in the surrounding buildings.

“The demolition is scheduled to take place next week. The developer, Kam Development, has sent the director of the demolition company to meet with neighborhood residents, assuring them that the explosion will cause a maximum tremor of 2 on the Richter scale, which would not damage the nearby buildings. However, we are certain that at least the windows of the apartments may break,” he said.

The resident explained that their buildings, located adjacent to the one to be demolished, were only commissioned a few years ago, but may soon be deemed seismically unsafe. He noted that residents have also attempted to contact the city hall, but have not been able to reach any officials there.
