VIDEO: Students in Bangladesh Organize Protests, Many Casualties Reported

Mobile internet has been shut down across the People's Republic of Bangladesh for several hours. The population is presenting protests against the government. The protests are mainly led by students who are demanding the resignation of the authorities and an increase in salaries.

There are reports of protesters being killed by security forces, with some information indicating that the number of fatalities reaches into the dozens. The protesters are demanding the cancellation of the quota system that allocates up to 30% of government jobs to the families of veterans who participated in the war for independence in 1971. They argue that this system is discriminatory and benefits supporters of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, whose "Awami League" party led the independence movement. They want to replace it with a merit-based system.

The protests intensified after clashes erupted on Monday on the Dhaka University campus between protesters, police, and pro-government student activists. On Tuesday, six people were killed, prompting the government to order the closure of universities across the country and the police to conduct raids at the headquarters of the main opposition party.
