VIDEO: Special Forces Search for Man with Suicide Belt in Paris Metro
The police and special forces are searching for a man in the Paris metro who is allegedly wearing a suicide belt, according to the Actu17 portal.
A source from the law enforcement agencies informed the publication that the suspect was seen in one of the carriages at the "Nationale" station in the eastern part of the city. French special operations armored vehicles have approached the station. All passengers have been evacuated.
As emphasized by the police, nothing at this point indicates that the suspect was armed or had explosives. The area around the "Nationale" station has been cordoned off by law enforcement. Special forces brigades and bomb disposal teams are present at the scene.
Authorities have not yet provided any additional information regarding the suspect's identity or the circumstances that led to the alarm. According to sources reported to the publication, the suspect has not yet been found. Paris prosecutor Laure Beck has stated that an increase in crime is expected during the Olympics scheduled to take place in the French capital. President Emmanuel Macron has indicated that the opening ceremony of the Olympics, set for July 26, could be relocated from the Seine River to a stadium in case of a terrorist threat.
The Summer Olympics in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11, followed by the Paralympics from August 28 to September 8.
