VIDEO: Copa America. Argentine Football Players Make Racist Chants Against French Rivals
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has launched an investigation into racist chants made by Argentine national team players after their victory in the cup tournament. "FIFA strongly condemns any form of discrimination, including that from players, fans, and officials," the organization stated in a release.
The incident was highlighted during a live broadcast on Instagram featuring Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández of Chelsea. The player showcased the celebration of their victory on a bus with teammates.
In the video, some Argentine players can be heard chanting that many French footballers cannot be considered citizens of France. Specifically, they assert that while these players compete for the French national team, “they are all from Angola,” referencing the origins of their parents. Additionally, the song includes offensive lines presumably aimed at France's team captain, Kylian Mbappé.
The video was shared by Fernández's teammate from Chelsea, French player Wesley Fofana, who was born to immigrant parents from Mali. “Football in 2024: Racism in its most brutal form,” he wrote in the post.
