New Details on Fatal Incident at a Sevan Resort Area
On July 17, 2024, a report was received from "Sevan Medical Center" about three individuals with gunshot wounds and internal bleeding who were transported there for medical assistance. The victims included a 37-year-old and a 56-year-old from Gegharkunik Province, as well as a 41-year-old from Kotayk Province. This information was reported by the Investigative Committee.
As a result of undertaken measures, based on reasonable suspicion regarding the individuals responsible for the gunshot injuries, a 19-year-old resident of Gegharkunik Province and a 40-year-old resident of Tavush Province were arrested and taken to a police station from the backyard of a hotel complex adjacent to the Yerevan-Sevan-Ijevan highway.
In connection with the incident, a criminal case was initiated by the Sevan Investigative Division of the Gegharkunik Regional Investigative Department on charges under the second part of Article 155, Items 7 and 12, Article 297, and Article 335, part one of the RA Criminal Code.
During the pre-investigation, investigative and procedural actions revealed that the 19-year-old and the 40-year-old, along with a group of individuals, were relaxing at the hotel complex when they got into a dispute with a 37-year-old man from Sevan, a 42-year-old from Abovyan, and a 36-year-old woman from Yerevan. The dispute escalated into a brawl, during which random gunshots were fired, resulting in the gunshot wounds of the 37-year-old and the 41-year-old residents of Sevan and Abovyan, as well as a 56-year-old security staff member of the hotel complex.
On July 18, 2024, at 06:40, "Sevan" Medical Center reported that the 37-year-old man from Gegharkunik Province had died from the gunshot wounds to his abdomen without regaining consciousness.
It was decided to arrest the 19-year-old from Gegharkunik Province and the 40-year-old from Tavush Province.
During the investigation at the crime scene, ammunition, deformed bullet-like fragments, and traces resembling blood were found and confiscated. Two handguns loaded with bullets were also seized, along with the surveillance footage of the incident.
Forensic, autopsy, ballistic, and toxicological examinations have been appointed as part of the criminal proceedings. The relevant police department has been tasked with clarifying significant circumstances pertinent to the criminal case and identifying all individuals involved in the incident for questioning.
The investigation is ongoing.
