VIDEO: Lavrov's Speech in New York Interrupted by Calls to 'Free Hostages'

The speech of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a UN Security Council meeting on the Middle East was interrupted by two activists present in the hall. They stood up from their seats, holding paper placards and began shouting slogans like "The people of Israel are alive" and "Free the hostages," reports TASS.

RIA Novosti states that the activists were reportedly shouting slogans regarding the fate of Israeli hostages held by the Palestinian Hamas movement.

Upon hearing the women's shouts, Lavrov paused his speech and said, "I don’t understand, tell me more simply, simply, more simply, otherwise I don’t understand. Can one of you clearly tell me what you want? You don’t want? Well, okay."

Security escorted the activists out of the meeting room, and Lavrov continued his speech as the President of the UN Security Council. RIA Novosti notes that the activists were positioned in the area of the Security Council chamber where journalists have access. TASS reports that they likely gained entry into the building using guest tickets.
