Tourists in Bali Urged to Dress More Modestly and Reasons Provided

The head of Bali's tourism department, Cok Bagus Pemayun, has advised tourists on the island to refrain from wearing bikinis and bras while riding scooters. His remarks were reported by RIA Novosti.

“Sometimes, tourists who ride motorcycles here wear inappropriate and indecent clothing, such as bikinis. They may be new to a tropical country and are not used to our hot weather,” the official stated.

According to him, such behavior distracts local residents on the roads and draws unwanted attention to Bali’s tourists on social media. He also recommended that tourists riding motorcycles or scooters choose to wear trousers whenever possible.

Last April, social media influencer and clothing brand founder Luiza Kosiha held an open photoshoot near a sacred Balinese tree. Activists demanded that a Russian tourist involved be found and punished. As a result, the girl was arrested and required to leave Indonesia immediately.
