Lady Gaga's '911' Music Video Considered a Conspiracy in Armenia: Director's Clarification
Within the framework of the Golden Apricot Film Festival, American director Tarsem Singh, known for his Indian roots, was present in Yerevan. He has worked with global stars and directed their music videos. The latest in his repertoire is Lady Gaga's '911', released on September 18, 2020.
“I know that in Armenia, this music video is regarded as a conspiracy and Lady Gaga is called a devil, but she is not involved in this. I am the director and I personally decided that the video would be shot with Parajanovian motifs,” the director stated.
Nine days after the release of the '911' music video, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale operation against Artsakh. Armenian users began to comment on frames from the video, especially the scene where the word 'Caution' is written in Armenian on a ribbon. The figure dressed in black and floral attire, who is being placed on a stretcher, was interpreted as a representation of 'Karabakh', referring to the 'Black Garden'. The culmination of the 44-day war was symbolized by 911, which signifies the 9th day of the 11th month. However, Tarsem Singh ruled out any connections between the video’s motifs and the tragic events.
“I am not Nostradamus; that is absurd. The music video has no connection to the Armenian-Azerbaijani war,” he added.
