VIDEO: Unknown Individual Pours Liquid Substance Under Trees in Yerevan

An unknown individual has been pouring a liquid substance under conifer trees on Mashtots Avenue in the Central administrative district of Yerevan for several days, according to the press service of the Yerevan City Hall.

“The actions took place after working hours. Given that the conifers are included in Armenia's 'Red Book', criminal liability is stipulated by law for harming the trees. The Municipal Enterprise for 'Greening and Environmental Protection' has addressed the law enforcement bodies,” the statement reads.

It was noted that employees of the enterprise wear special green uniforms, making them easy to identify, and it is necessary to contact the relevant authorities when encountering such cases. The City Hall emphasized that this is not the only incident this year; several conifer trees planted last year have also dried out. At that time, the soil was sent for laboratory testing, revealing that the levels of nitrogen and salts found in the sample exceeded the permissible norms by several times, leading to the burning and destruction of the root system, which in turn resulted in the trees drying out.

In contrast, soil samples from healthy trees in the same area revealed nothing, indicating that the drying of the newly planted conifers was due to external interference.
