Video: Experts Warn of New Scam Involving Hysterical Phone Calls Posing as Family Members
Information security expert Samvel Martirosyan has revealed a new scam being spread through phone calls. “They call with a very hysterical voice, crying, pretending to be the victim’s child or relative. They use a few different scenarios. One claims that they have been in an accident and are at the hospital. Another claims that they have hit someone and now need money to avoid police consequences. Naturally, they say that they are in a bad situation, cannot talk well, and pass the phone to someone like a 'nurse.' This manipulates people into handing over money. It may seem absurd, but it will impact some individuals. Previous incidents show that they have databases and can make targeted calls. The number of calls will increase, don’t be afraid,” said the expert.
