Deputy Director of Medical Center Specifies Cause of Death of 32-Year-Old Woman During Nose Surgery
Operational information has been received at the New Nork division of the Police of the Republic of Armenia that a patient died on July 6 at the "Artmed" Medical Center. According to G. Shamsyan, the police and investigators have determined that the deceased was 32-year-old Liana S. from Yerevan. According to photojournalist reports, she underwent surgery in the nasal area on July 5 at the mentioned medical center and died during the procedure. She had returned to Armenia from the Russian Federation to undergo surgery.
In an interview with "Panorama," Artmed Medical Center’s Deputy Director Arayik Garibyan stated that the woman had malignant hyperthermia, which led to her death. "The incident is not a result of a doctor's error. It is the only case of death recorded during nose surgery at the center. The cause was malignant hyperthermia, when a person’s body temperature suddenly rises to 42-43 degrees Celsius. It is a genetic condition related to chromosomes, which can manifest during the second or third anesthesia," said Garibyan. According to the deputy director of the medical center, this issue cannot be diagnosed in advance, as the woman did not mention that she had experienced problems with anesthesia in the past.
