61-Year-Old Man Attempts to Kill His Sleeping Brother-in-Law

On July 8, 2024, at 07:14, a report was received from Astghik Medical Center regarding a man who was transported for medical assistance due to a knife wound diagnosed as a cut to the abdominal area.

This was reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia. "As a result of operational and investigative measures, the identity of the individual involved, as well as that of the person who inflicted the injury, has been established. Both are residents of Yerevan, born in 1963. A criminal case has been initiated in the Malatya-Sebastia division of the Yerevan investigative department under Article 166, Part 2, Point 6 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. During the pre-investigation phase, investigative and procedural actions were carried out that revealed that on July 8, 2024, around 06:30, in a house on Vantyan Street in Yerevan, a 61-year-old man attempted to kill his sleeping brother-in-law by stabbing him in the chest with a knife. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the crime was not completed as the sister and her husband woke up and took the knife away from him.

An examination of the crime scene was conducted within the criminal proceedings, during which the knife used in the crime was seized, and several individuals were interrogated. Forensic medical and genetic examinations have been ordered. Based on sufficient evidence obtained, charges have been brought against the 61-year-old man under Article 44-155, Part 2, Point 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. A motion has been submitted to the court regarding his detention as a preventive measure. The investigation is ongoing.
