Vladimir Gasparyan Released from Serving Sentence
The former Chief of Police of Armenia, Vladimir Gasparyan, has been found guilty but was released from serving a sentence based on certain stipulations, including amnesty and expiration of the statute of limitations for some charges. The ruling was delivered by Judge Vardges Sargsyan of Armenia's Anti-Corruption Court.
Vladimir Gasparyan will be required to pay judicial costs amounting to 200,000 Armenian drams.
There are four defendants in this criminal case: Vladimir Gasparyan, former Deputy Chief of Police Levon Yeranosyan, former head of the Internal Audit Department Vardan Tunyana, and former commander of the police troops Gurgen Grigoryan. They have all been placed under preventive measures, which include signing not to leave.
The public prosecutor had demanded an 11-year prison term for former Chief of Police Vladimir Gasparyan.
It should be noted that in July 2023, Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee released a statement indicating that former Chief of Police Vladimir Gasparyan had laundered approximately 2 billion drams' worth of property obtained through criminal means.
