One in Three Children in Armenia is Poor, Says NSS
According to official statistics, the level of poverty in Armenia decreased by 1.1% in 2023. Based on data from the National Statistical Committee, 23.7% of the population was living in poverty in 2023, down from 24.8% in 2022.
The level of extreme poverty decreased by 0.1%, now standing at 1.1%, compared to 1.2% the previous year. The urban poverty rate in 2023 was found to be 21.5%, with 0.5% of this reflecting extreme poverty, while rural poverty was recorded at 27%, including 2% in extreme poverty.
Meanwhile, the indicator for child poverty saw only a slight decrease of 0.6% over the year. Consequently, 31.7% of children living in the country are considered poor, including 1.8% living in extreme poverty.
