VIDEO: A Coup Plan Took Place on November 9 Night That Failed, Marukyan Details
On the night of November 9, there was a coup plan that failed. This was stated by Edmon Marukyan, the president of the Bright Armenia party and former special envoy of Armenia, in a video he published.
“Today, these criminal cases are still ongoing, but I do not think they are being investigated with the logic that the coup plan failed; rather, they are investigating that there was an attack on the Speaker of the National Assembly. But if we consider what happened—occupation of the government building, occupation of the National Assembly building, occupation of summer governmental residences, incursions onto the airport road, and also, if I'm not mistaken, some people stormed aircraft. This means these criminal cases require detailed investigation,” he explained.
Marukyan says it is unclear how the gates of the National Assembly were opened, how they managed to storm the government buildings, and that the only area that was protected that day was the space of the “Bright Armenia” faction, as they were already on site. “However, the substantial issue is that many groups come to the faction with whom I meet, and the discussion is about the need to take the people out of the parliament building, to stop the occupation of state buildings. After which, I pursued the call for National Assembly members, including members of ‘My Step’, to come to parliament so that we could hold a session and understand what we are doing. For example, Andrias Ghukasyan suggests that the parliament adopt a document recognizing Artsakh, there are other demands for the Prime Minister to resign, and a new government to be formed, which I say, if we gather, we will discuss. But my proposal remains that the parliament building must be liberated, which happens at 5:00 AM. Naturally, no government member presents itself at the National Assembly after Ararat Mirzoyan's case, as they could not ensure security,” he stated.
Marukyan also mentioned that on that day he was contacted by the Prosecutor General to learn about the situation and what Marukyan envisioned. To this, Marukyan responded that they stand at the forefront of preserving statehood and will not allow such things to happen. “At that moment, regional governor's buildings were also occupied, which I do not know whether they are included in the criminal cases or not, but there was indeed an attempt at a state coup, which was halted—whether by chance or not, but we have done our part,” he concluded.
