Video: We Cannot Advance with the Logic of Slaughtering Pigs, Cows, and Sheep on Asphalt, the Country Needs to Move Forward - Pashinyan
Citizens in Armenia will now clearly know whether the meat products they purchase are imported or local. This decision was made during today's session of the Armenian government.
The Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, stated that the draft regulates the identification of animal origin products and raw materials. "When purchasing meat products, there will be a document visible in a public place, which will contain a QR code, and through it, buyers will be able to find out whether it is imported meat or produced in Armenia, when the slaughter took place, at which producer, what kind of animal, and so on," the minister emphasized.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan added that based on the results of visits to the regions, the government needs to make certain adjustments in the regulations regarding slaughterhouses. "In the past, we adopted a decision regarding mobile slaughterhouses, and I found out that there are already such slaughterhouses in the regions of Armenia. We will soon understand how to encourage this process, as many farmers are still unaware of what it is," he said.
According to the Prime Minister, the issue is that these mobile slaughterhouses should primarily serve remote villages, which is still very inadequate. "Besides, the country can stand still and allow the slaughter of pigs, cows, and sheep on asphalt. We need to diligently move forward on this issue," Pashinyan noted.
It is noteworthy that, according to data from January 2024, there are 101 slaughterhouses in Armenia. The State Food Safety Service is confident that this number is sufficient to meet the entire demand of the republic.
