VIDEO: Fight and Brawl Between Their Sons Led to Murder in Amberd - New Details

The Police of the Republic of Armenia has presented new details regarding the murder case that occurred in Amberd.

“We have already addressed the murder that occurred in Amberd village of Armavir province, and we have also mentioned that many circumstances are still being clarified. Thanks to the joint actions of the police and investigators from Vagharshapat, the main aspects of the case have been established, and we can now present a more detailed account of the incident.

On June 12, at 18:10, the operational management center of the Armavir police received information from the 'Echmiadzin' medical center that an emergency medical team had transported a 59-year-old man with gunshot wounds from the village of Amberd, who was unconscious. Minutes later, the medical center reported that he had died.

Through operational-investigative measures undertaken by the criminal investigators of the Vagharshapat police department, it was revealed that around 17:30, in an area adjacent to the school in Amberd village, a 43-year-old man from the same village fired a burst from a submachine gun towards the 'Opel Zafira' driven by his fellow villager with the intent to kill. As a result of the injuries sustained, the 59-year-old man died in the hospital.

As a result of subsequent measures, the 43-year-old man from Amberd was found in the Andranik district of the city of Echmiadzin, arrested, and taken to the Vagharshapat police department. Following explanatory work conducted there, he confessed to the act.

The law enforcement had some information regarding the motive for the murder. According to preliminary data, there was a background of animosity between the perpetrator and the victim, stemming from a previous dispute, fight, and brawl that had occurred between their sons, which had not been resolved amicably.

Further operational-investigative and procedural actions revealed that on the day of the murder, the 43-year-old man's 'Opel Astra J' vehicle was being driven by a 46-year-old villager. On June 12, before the murder, around 17:30, while they were driving in the 'Opel Astra' on Victory Street in Amberd village, they spotted an oncoming 'Toyota Camry', which was being driven by the son of the man who would later be killed; the same young man whose conflict with the perpetrator's son had not ended peacefully. During the drive, the 43-year-old man fired approximately 5 shots towards the 'Toyota'.

That same day, the 46-year-old man driving the 'Opel Astra' was located in the village of Shenavan in the Aragatsotn region, arrested, and provided a confession before being taken to the detention center. The 'Opel Astra J' vehicle was found in the village of Shahumyan, Armavir province.

On June 14, the investigative body charged the 43-year-old man under three articles of the Criminal Code: murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of a weapon. Through joint measures, it was established that on June 12, around 17:30, the 29-year-old son of the deceased had been carrying an illegally possessed submachine gun around the murder site and was allegedly firing shots. According to another piece of information, he continued to possess the illegal submachine gun and other ammunition and was reportedly preparing to leave Armenia.

On June 18, at 3:30 AM, the 29-year-old man was arrested at 'Zvartnots' airport and taken to the Vagharshapat department's detention center. After explanatory work by department officers, on June 21, the young man expressed his willingness to hand over the illegally possessed submachine gun. He submitted an AK-74 type submachine gun at the Vagharshapat investigative department.

As part of the criminal proceedings, a search was carried out at the young man’s residence on June 21, upon the court's decision, where five hand grenades and two detonators were discovered in the attic. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
