Erdogan Cannot Act as Mediator in Ukraine Negotiations, Peskov Says
The issue of Ukraine was discussed during the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, but the Turkish leader cannot act as a mediator in the negotiations. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of Russia.
According to RIA Novosti, Putin and Erdogan held talks on Wednesday in Kazakhstan during the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
“No, this is not possible,” Peskov said in response to a question regarding the potential for Erdogan to become a mediator in negotiations concerning Ukraine. The Kremlin spokesman confirmed that the topic of Ukraine was indeed discussed during the meeting of the two leaders in Astana.
“Yes, it was discussed,” he responded.
