Abazyan Can Check His Phone if He Forgot, and See That I Am Right: Kerebyan

Director of the National Security Service Armen Abazyan, if he has forgotten, can check his phone and see that I am right. This was stated by former Minister of Economy Vahan Kerebyan during a broadcast on Radio Liberty, addressing the NSS’s denial of his claims that Abazyan had asked him to appoint certain individuals to positions.

Kerebyan stated that the case against him has been fabricated. “One of my defenders has publicly explained that the 'evidence' on which the charges have been brought does not meet the minimum standards, and yes, a case has been fabricated against me,” he said.

On the observation that he has linked the case to several requests made by the NSS chief that he did not fulfill, he stated, “I have said that since I have been principled during my work, it has happened that a conflict situation has arisen with many people. But when there is a situation of removing one person from a position and appointing another, that contradicts my conscience. I will never value any person or position more than being honest with my conscience.”

Regarding the NSS's absolute denial of the claim that Abazyan asked him to appoint someone, Kerebyan said, “Mr. Abazyan, if he has forgotten, can check his phone and see that I am right.”

When asked if there is a connection between his refusal of Abazyan's requests and the case against him, Kerebyan noted, “I wouldn’t want to directly create such a link; let’s say signals have been received from different places that there is a special attitude towards me. Therefore, while under house arrest, when you analyze this entire process, it creates a picture that coincides with today’s realities.”
