Parliamentary Elections in France: Voter Turnout 20% Higher than Two Years Ago, Reports Le Figaro
On Sunday, at 17:00 Paris time (19:00 Yerevan time), the voter turnout for the first round of parliamentary elections in France has reached 59.39%, according to French media reports.
Le Figaro notes that this figure is 20% higher compared to the same time during the first round of the presidential elections in 2022.
The publication also cites forecasts from the Ifop public opinion institute, suggesting that the final voter turnout could reach 69% by the end of voting.
Previously, national media had anticipated a high participation rate in these extraordinary elections for the lower house of France's Parliament, the National Assembly.
A total of 577 parliamentary seats are up for election. Initial results are expected after 20:00 local time.
According to the procedure, if a candidate secures a majority of votes (over 25% participation) in the first round, they immediately obtain a mandate in Parliament. If no candidate is elected, a second round will take place.
The second round is scheduled for July 7. On June 9, following the defeat of the presidential socio-liberal party “Renaissance” in the European Parliament elections, President Emmanuel Macron announced the dissolution of the National Assembly and called for extraordinary legislative elections on the same day.
