VIDEO: One of the World's Most Dangerous Drugs Found in Imported Shipment to Armenia

The State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia continues its unwavering fight against the illegal transportation of drugs and psychotropic substances across the borders of the Republic of Armenia.

Recently, employees from the Committee’s anti-smuggling division, in cooperation with staff from the electronic commerce and postal transport services, conducted a customs inspection of an international parcel imported from the Federal Republic of Germany through "Global Shipping" LLC at the customs control zone of the Cargo Terminal at Zvartnots Airport. Within this shipment, 50 tablets were discovered. The tablets were examined with specialized equipment that displayed the label "acrylfentanyl" on its screen.

The substance fentanyl is included in the Republic of Armenia government decision No. 707-N as a controlled drug. Following the discovery of these substances, the operational intelligence department of the Committee’s anti-smuggling division took immediate operational and investigative measures to determine the delivery location of the package, which was subsequently monitored.

Within the framework of the "Controlled Supply and Purchase" operational-intelligence measure, a similar package containing replacement substances instead of the identified "acrylfentanyl" was imported through "Global Shipping" LLC and remained at the service hall of "GLOBBING" company located at 50 Mashtots Avenue in Yerevan for about 4 days. The intended recipient requested to receive the shipment via postal mail at an address in Tsaghkadzor.

Upon arrival in Tsaghkadzor, the recipient indicated that they could not personally receive the shipment and asked for it to be left at a store located at the specified address. That store was monitored, and later in the evening, two Russian citizens, spouses N.D. and E.K., approached the store, received the package, and were subsequently arrested and taken to the anti-smuggling division of the Armenian State Revenue Committee.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia on the basis of Article 399 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, in which the spouses have been detained. A search was conducted at their residence, where items and materials of significance to the criminal case were discovered and confiscated.

Experts note that the use of the discovered fentanyl type of drug is extremely dangerous, as the incidence of death caused by overdose is the highest compared to other drugs. Fentanyl's effect is 50 times stronger than that of heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.
