Video: A 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Peru, Tsunami Warning Issued

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake has been recorded in the Caraveli province located in the southwestern part of Peru. This was announced on Friday by the country’s naval hydrology and navigation service.

According to a message published on the agency's website, “A 7.0 magnitude earthquake was registered on June 28, 2024.” The earthquake occurred at 00:36 local time (08:36 UTC) at a depth of 42 kilometers.

The National Tsunami Warning Center has reported a risk of tsunami following the earthquake that struck near the shores of Peru.

Peru is situated in what is known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area that accounts for approximately 85% of the world’s seismic activity.
