Peskov: I Don’t Think the President Would Set an Alarm to Wake Up and Watch the Debate in the U.S.

The televised debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump that took place last night in the U.S. is not among the main issues on the agenda of the Russian president. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian president, in response to a question on whether Vladimir Putin watched the U.S. presidential candidates' debate.

“I do not think you expected the president to set an alarm, wake up at dawn, and watch the debate in the U.S.,” Peskov said. He added that the Kremlin would familiarize itself with the candidates' statements, but overall, it is an internal matter of the United States.

As we reported earlier, discussions are ongoing about the possibility of replacing Joe Biden with another candidate following the first televised debate between Biden and Donald Trump. During his speech, Biden made several slips of the tongue; he did not make serious mistakes, but at one point, the thread of his thought seemed to break, and Trump noted it.

“I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. And I think he doesn't remember at all,” joked the former U.S. president.

Following this debate, discussions have begun within the Democratic Party regarding the potential removal of Biden's candidacy from the election and replacing him with another candidate. This would require the personal approval of the President of the United States. The Democratic Party convention, where the party's candidate will be finalized, is scheduled to take place in August.

It is noteworthy that according to 67% of viewers, the Republican candidate outperformed the incumbent president, as shown by a CNN poll. According to its results, only 33% of viewers believe that Joe Biden performed better than his opponent. CNN emphasizes that the poll results do not reflect the opinions of all voters. Moreover, the television network and its audience are considered supporters of the Democratic Party. According to the network's data, before the debate, voters (55% to 45%) indicated that they expected Donald Trump to perform better than the current U.S. president.
