Man Wanted for Murder by Georgian Law Enforcement Found in Armenia

Mariam Z.

A man wanted by Georgian law enforcement for murder and attempted murder has recently been discovered in Ashtarak. This information has been reported by the Police of the Republic of Armenia.

The Criminal Investigation Department operatives acted on the operational information received about the fugitive in collaboration with their colleagues in Ashtarak. The 35-year-old man, who has been wanted by the Georgian authorities since 2012, was found and transferred to the precinct on the beginning of Yerevan Street in Ashtarak. He was wanted under three articles of the Criminal Code of Georgia: premeditated murder, attempted premeditated murder under aggravating circumstances, and illegal acquisition, production, and sale of weapons and ammunition.

After committing the crime, the Tbilisi resident illegally acquired a passport under a different name belonging to a Russian citizen. It was with this forged passport that he illegally crossed the border into Armenia and had been hiding in Ashtarak recently.

The fugitive has been transferred to a detention facility pending the completion of the procedures for his handover to Georgian law enforcement authorities.

Note: A person suspected or accused of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia by a court verdict that has taken legal effect.
