VIDEO: An Iranian Citizen Attempts to Smuggle Marijuana and Cocaine into Armenia, Says State Revenue Committee

Recently, employees of the Customs Service and Control Department of the State Revenue Committee conducted customs inspections at the ground border crossing points with Iran. They inspected a passenger vehicle arriving from the Islamic Republic of Iran at the Agarak customs checkpoint.

During the customs inspection, including an X-ray examination of the Peugeot brand vehicle registered in Iran, suspicions arose that there might be hidden compartments within the vehicle. Simultaneously, the behavior of the driver of the aforementioned vehicle also raised suspicions for the customs authorities.

In collaboration with the staff of the Customs Anti-Smuggling Directorate, further customs inspections were carried out, leading to a thorough examination of the vehicle. More than 12.1 kg of substances resembling marijuana and approximately 4.42 grams of materials similar to cocaine were discovered inside the backrest of the car seats.

Materials related to the case have been transferred to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, where a criminal case has been initiated against the Iranian citizen, A.A., under Article 399 of the RA Criminal Code. The individual has been arrested.

Notification: The individual accused of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court ruling that has entered into legal force, in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
