VIDEO: How Julian Assange was Welcomed in Australia
Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, has arrived in Canberra, Australia, to a hero's welcome. As he descended the stairs, Assange first embraced his wife and father.
Earlier, it was reported that Assange’s case had been officially dropped, and he emerged from the U.S. court as a free citizen. It is worth noting that on June 24, a London court decided to release Assange on bail from the Belmarsh prison, where he had spent 1901 days.
Assange gained worldwide recognition for founding the WikiLeaks website, which published hundreds of thousands of classified materials, including videos showing the deaths of civilians due to an American helicopter attack in Baghdad.
Assange faced a potential 175 years in prison in the U.S. for the largest number of charges related to the disclosure of classified information in the country's history.
