Messi Injured in Copa America Match
The captain of the Argentina national team, Lionel Messi, has sustained an injury during the group stage of the Copa America, in the second round match against Chile. Messi was injured following a collision with Chilean midfielder Gabriel Suazo. Immediately after this incident, he returned to the field.
“At the beginning of the game, I felt some discomfort in my right knee tendon,” Messi is quoted by The Athletic. “It was stretched, it wasn’t as calm as it should be. But I managed to finish that match. Let’s see what comes out of it.”
Argentina secured a 1-0 victory against the Chilean team, with the only goal scored by Argentine forward Lautaro Martinez in the 88th minute. Messi played the full 90 minutes.
The Argentina national team has won both of its matches in the tournament, securing its place in the quarter-finals. The world champions are at the top of Group A, with Canada in second place after a 1-0 win against Peru. Both Peru and Chile have one point each. The top two teams from the group will advance to the quarter-finals. Argentina has earned 6 points and is in first place in Group A, while Chile is in last place with one point.
