Paramount Shuts Down MTV News Website and Deletes Channel's Entire Archive

The MTV News website is no longer operational, and the entire archive of the channel, which had been active for over 40 years, has reportedly been deleted, according to Variety. Now, when visitors attempt to access mtv.com/news, they are redirected to MTV's main page.

On Monday, the operations of CMT.com, the sister channel dedicated to country music, were also halted. MTV News and CMT were shut down last summer due to financial difficulties faced by Paramount Global, which owns both networks. At the same time, it was announced that a quarter of employees at Showtime, MTV, and Paramount Media Networks would be laid off in the U.S.

The shutdown of the website has deprived users of the content that had accumulated in the site's archive since 1996. This includes thousands of articles and interviews with numerous famous artists.

MTV News began its operations in the U.S. in 1987 with Kurt Loder's weekly show on the then-music channel. Over time, its show started airing every evening. The channel's news division reached the peak of its popularity in the 1990s. As time passed, MTV's management shifted its focus to reality shows, and news broadcasts began to appear less frequently.
