Azerbaijan Again Makes Manipulative Accusations Against Armenia's Mining Industry: 'Pasta'
Azerbaijan has been periodically attacking Armenia's mining industry for years, among other crimes, aiming to damage our country's economy. This is reported by the 'Pasta' newspaper.
In recent two to three years, numerous calls from NGOs, environmentalists, and experts controlled by Azerbaijan's government circles have emerged to prevent the exploitation of the Amulsar mine, halt the operations at ZPMC, and cease the construction of a metallurgical plant in the Ararat region.
Furthermore, they managed to achieve the suspension of operations at the Sotk open-pit mine, while the construction of a metallurgical plant in Yerashkh has been halted and relocated to another site.
On the second day of a forum held in Zangezour, dedicated to cooperation among Azerbaijan's non-governmental organizations, a discussion on 'The Environmental Consequences of Armenia's Mining Industry' took place. Azerbaijani environmentalists and representatives of state bodies voiced new manipulative accusations against Armenia, seizing yet another opportunity to claim that Armenia's mining industry is inflicting serious harm on the environment.
Moreover, the Azerbaijani representatives noted that although Armenia's natural resources are relatively small, its contribution to the regional environmental damage is significant. This assertion was made by a representative of a country where oil extraction poses a tremendous threat to the environment in the region.
Incidentally, according to our information, Amin Mamedov, the secretary of the Public Council of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, delivered a strong speech in which he thanked Armenian organizations that opposed the exploitation of the Amulsar mine, as part of the Environmental Protection First coalition initiative.
