The Future of the CSTO Will Be Determined by Its Member States, Says Secretary

The future of the CSTO will be determined by the countries that are members of this alliance. This statement was made by the Secretary General of the CSTO, Imangali Tasmagambetov.

“Having independence and the sovereign right to determine their foreign policy autonomously, they choose the modern toolkit for ensuring national security. The history of the last two centuries shows that the most demanded toolkit is collective security. In the rapidly deteriorating system of international security, the growing tension will attract more and more attention to organizations like the CSTO,” the Secretary noted.

The CSTO Secretary General did not rule out the possibility of the organization's expansion in the foreseeable future. According to him, the public and political demand for security may provide for both the expansion of the organization’s functionality and, possibly, an increase in the number of its participants.
